Lands of granite plateaux, hills and forests

To the north-east of the department, La Margeride is the most extensive natural area in Lozère. It is a land of granite where forest alternates with moors, grasslands and wide pastures. Once part of the county of Gévaudan, it is rich in eventful history.

But La Margeride is also a secretive place of quiet and the murmuring of water flowing in the many rivers such as the Truyère so prized by fishers. La Margeride is a haven of serenity in this region which remains true to itself in spite of change.
